Steve Glocke has been a professional trainer to athletes and celebrities in the Charlotte area for the past six years. He is certified through the American Council on Exercise as a Personal Trainer, Lifestyle and Weight Management Consultant and Clinical Exercise Specialist.

He is also certified as a Golf Biomechanics Instructor by the C.H.E.K. Institute, the most recognized and highly regarded certification of its kind, not only in the nation, but world wide. Graduates of the Institute are well known on the Professional Tours and have trained many of the Pros that are known well in golfing households.

Steve became interested in golf fitness when he recently returned to the game after a ten year absence.  He integrated a golf fitness component into his own approach to the game and immediately recognized its value.  Steve now looks to share his insight and experience with those serious about improving their golf scores and preventing golf related injuries through articles on this site.

Why Train:

In the last 70 years, even with the advent of computerized training programs and quantum leaps in equipment technology, research has shown that golfers at all levels have not improved their scores or their handicaps. The missing element has been the introduction of golf specific strength and flexibility training. Now referred to as golf fitness.

The golf swing is a very complex and highly athletic movement, often performed by folks who lack the fitness and flexibility to execute it correctly.

Golfers who lack the physical ability to perform a golf swing correctly will over compensate with movements that, when repeated often enough, will destroy the joints and associated tissues.

Many improper swings are due to the inability of a golfer to turn the pelvic and shoulder girdles. Just ask your golf Pro, what is the most important and most frustrating part of his teaching curriculum. Compensating for this shortcoming leads golfers to improvise with movements that cause excessive stress to the knees, hips, shoulders, elbows and wrists.

Studies show that fully half of all amateur golfers, both male and female, suffer from some kind of back pain. And the pros are not immune. Thirty percent of all professional golfers are playing with back pain at any given time. It was the original reason that professionals first engaged fitness trainers. That is, until they recognized the marked improvement in their scores.

Golf fitness will have a much greater value than just being fit for golf.  Being golf fit will mean a stronger, more flexible and healthy you.

How to curve a golf ball while putting?

I recently have gotten into golfing and one of the things I was confused about is left-right / right-left curving of the golf ball in putting. Instead of just hitting the golf ball straight towards the cup, how do I put spin on the ball and curve it? Any video that you might have found online would be the most helpful, but you can try to convey the techniques in words to.
